
Mr. Burton was elected in 1985,1995 and re-elected in 2001 and 2005. He also was elected as Park District Commissioner from 1981-1995; Mr. Burton also has served of the Police and Fire Commission Board. At present, Mr. Burton is a School District 205 Board member.
Trustee Burton has many accomplishments. He is employed as an instructor of African-American Cultural Affairs at South Suburban College. His other interests are music and writing. He is a published author of "Black Buckskin and Blue" and "Black Gun, Silver Star" these history books showcase black cowboys of the West.
Trustee Burton has had many awards bestowed upon him. These are a few:
- "Black Gun, Silver Star" was a finalist for best biography for 2007 by the Western Writers of America.
- Inducted in 2007 into WHO'S WHO in Black Chicago
- Inducted in 2008 into the National Cowboys of Color Museum and Hall of Fame, Ft. Worth, Texas
He and his wife, Patrice, have one daughter, Aisha.
